DAY 12 | 12 Apr 2022
Funchal

The Funchal city of today is very different from its fennel growing, pirate days of old. It is in fact a modern, cosmopolitan, rejuvenated city, well known for its many top-class restaurants and its warm all year-round climate and of course its most famous export, footballer Cristiano Ronaldo. Enjoy activities such as diving, surfing, and swimming with dolphins, or simply just enjoy a snack at the numerous “people watching” cafes and outside garden venues.

Inspired by the original ice hotels in Scandinavia, this remarkable bar is a unique frozen chamber where the bar, seating and glasses are made entirely of ice.

Generally thought of as a large port city, Malaga constantly surprises tourists with its Moorish influences that blends artfully with its traditionally-Spanish culture. This spreads from its street market areas to the dozens of cafés and bars dotted around the Old Town – though if you want to get away from the lively centre, a bus ride or walk to the 10th century El Castillo De Gibralfaro is well worth the effort.

Heading inland on twisting mountain roads, you’ll find delightful villages of honey-coloured stone, while its capital Palma is home to Gothic castles, stunning cathedrals and the odd remnant of its Moorish past like the Arab Baths. It’s little wonder that sun-kissed Majorca has been a much-loved holiday destination for decades.
