Dubai - Hotel Stay

Dubai, the adults’ playground of Arabia, is awash with world-class attractions. Take the elevator to the observation level of the cloud-busting Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. As well as dizzying views of the city, you can watch the dazzling dancing fountains below. Together with huge luxury megamalls, there are winding souks, both old and new, dotted around the city. Or why not escape the bustle and embark on a desert safari, rolling over the endless dunes in a four-by-four.

As it prepares to host football’s World Cup in 2022, Qatar edges ever closer to the limelight. Muscat

Compared to most coastal cities around the Arabian Gulf, Muscat enjoys slower pace of life. Instead of the soaring skyscrapers of Dubai and Doha, you’ll find a capital that’s comfortable with keeping its feet on the ground. Wander the souks near its picturesque harbour and haggle for trinkets, head to the mountains in a four-wheel drive or explore the Al Jalali Fort that has stood sentry over the harbour since the days of the Portuguese occupation in the 16th century.

Salalah

Situated at the base of the Al Qara Mountains, Salahah stands out among other cities in the region due to its much cooler climate and striking vegetation, with banana and coconut trees in abundance. The city also offers beautiful beaches, traditional Islamic architecture, mountains covered in frankincense trees and even caves. You could also visit the Tomb of Job in the hills overlooking the city, with a brief stop-off at the Al Mughsayl blow holes.

Haifa

With its enviable position on the slopes of Mount Carmel and facing the Mediterranean Sea, Haifa offers stunning views. From the top of Mount Carmel you can see right across in the Western Galilee and Haifa is a great base to explore Caesarea and Nazareth. Visit the immaculately landscaped terraces of the tropical Bahá'í Gardens with its gold-domed Shrine of the Bab. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is made up of 19 terraces featuring flowers, water features and sculptures.

This is Crete’s most evocative city, with its pretty Venetian quarter, criss-crossed by narrow lanes, culminating at a magnificent harbour. Naples

Bustling Naples also serves as a gateway to key destinations including Sorrento, Positano, Capri and, of course, Pompeii, an ancient Roman city preserved under ash after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. Head up the towering slopes of Mount Vesuvius, the only active volcano in mainland Europe, and savour a pizza in the city where this staple of Italian cuisine was first conceived. Wandering Naples’ streets, admire its wealth of grand architecture, with colonnaded palaces, domed gallerias and remarkable churches.
